Where I like to eat in Marin

Marin County has some great places to eat. Below is a list of my favorite places. Soon I will be adding more to the list and I welcome your suggestions. Of course the best food in Marin is at my house but one does need to get ideas... There is nothing better than having your own gourmet kitchen and someone to share your creations with.

  • Marin Joes is located in Corte Madera just off the freeway. It has been around since 1953 and I have been going there ever since I can remember. There are many good things to try, just remember to bring your appetite. My favorites are; cheeseburger, Spencer rib eye smothered in mushrooms, macaroni with porcini mushroom sauce, minestrone soup, club sandwich, chicken breast cacciatore, pork chops with pork chop sauce, special spinach, Caesar salad, surf and turf, tomatoes with mozzarella and vinaigrette and of course only on Thursdays...  Corn Beef and Cabbage.

  • Fabrizio's in Downtown Larkspur is upscale authentic Italian food with a personal flair. I've known Fabrizio since I was a kid and have always had great meals at his restaurant. My wife and I go there often on Monday nights for the Live Maine Lobster Special (her favorite!) and of course the decadent deserts.

  • Piazza D'Angelo in downtown Mill Valley is the place to be seen in the singles world. The food is very good, too.

  • Gira Polli Rotisserie in Mill Valley has some of the best Italian Wood-Fired Chicken in Marin

California Cuisine

  • Sam's Anchor Cafe downtown Tiburon is the place to be for Opening Day on the Bay as well as any warm sunny Saturday or Sunday for lunch. During crab season their Dungeness Cracked Crab is awesome!

  • Buckeye Roadhouse in Mill Valley is a longtime Marin Favorite. Great place for that romantic date with someone special. Ask for a table near the open hearth fire when it's cold out. My favorites are the Hanger Steak, Oysters Bingo, onion strings, baby back ribs, S'more Pie and Michelle's wicked Lemon Drop. Great wine selection, too.

  • Noonan's in Larkspur is a great place to go on Fridays. They have a good variety on the menu and th ebar has the largest selection of spirits in Northern California (over 130 Tequillas alone)If you want to get the social event into high gear try their signature "Bubble Gum" shot. You can always catch a sports game on one of the many TVs in the long bar.

  • El Paseo is the best French Cuisine in Marin and a great place to take that special someone. The ambiance is very romantic and the wine selection is award winning.

  • Feng Nian is my favorite Chinese restaurant located just off the freeway heading into Sausalito. They have the best chow fun in Marin.

  • C J Chinese Cuisine is in downtown Larkspur. Mr. CJ is from Taiwan and ensures top quality food. It is a favorite place for lunch and take out.

  • Yet Wah on Fourth Street in San Rafael is an old time favorite of mine. The manager, Simon, has been there ever since I can remember. My favorite is the Steak Q with Broccoli.

  • Hunan First in the Bon Aire Center is a favorite place for quick lunch special. You will almost always find a real estate agent there.

  • Lo Coco's Pizzeria in San Anselmo has some of the best authentic Italian pizza.

  • Milano Pizza at the Cove Shopping Center in Tiburon is a warm family style pizzeria - Italian restaurant with friendly old world service and stone-oven fired pizza pies.

  • Mulberry Street Pizza is one of the best gourmet pizza places in Marin. It's owner, Ted, is a gourmet chef who has been on the Cooking Channel. The Three Beer pizza will blow your socks off.

  • Ambrosia in Larkspur is a good pizza place with an incredible wine list. Mark, the owner is almost always there and always pours me a taste of any wine I want to try first and if I really enjoy it he will sell me the whole bottle after I've had a glass or two.

  • Taqueria Mexican Grill de Marin at the corner of College and SFD in Kentfield is my favorite place for a burrito or chimichunga. I used to take night classes at College of Marin and stop by almost every night for my burrito fix.

  • Lucinda's in Mill Valley next to the Porsche dealership is my latest burrito addiction place.

  • Joe's Taco Lounge in Mill Valley is a swanky mexican restaurant that is a place to be seen. Great call for lunch.

  • Maya Palenque's in Novato is the place to be for Cinco-de-Mayo.

  • Sushi Ran in Sausalito is the upscale Sushi restaurant with some of the best sushi in Marin. It is definitely the place to be seen and reservations are needed for Friday and Saturdays. On nice days it's wine bar and patio is the happing spot.

  • King of the Roll in downtown Larkspur is good place for sushi with out having to drive too far (for some of us).

  • Sushi to Dai For is one of my old haunts and located on Fourth Street in San Rafael.

  • Max's in Corte Madera is the place to go if you want the Big Breakfast. My favs are chicken fried steak and eggs, the Max's Special French Toast with crushed corn flakes and the Large custard filled Éclairs.

  • The Half Day Cafe in Kentfield is the popular spot next to College of Marin. Beware of the "Dough Gods" with homemade jam... they are addicting.

  • Bubba's Diner in San Anselmo is the quintessential old world Hash House. So good people will wait a long time for a table on the weekends.

  • The deli in Mollie Stone's at the Bon Aire Center is the place I frequent the most. I love their warm prime rib sandwiches and for my Broker's Opens I have them arrange party trays for me.
