Going to Maui and getting around Maui can be an easy task. The following are my recommendations.
Going to Maui
My preferred way to book travel is with Dreamer Escape , Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays, and United. Through these webssites they have direct flights from San Francisco to Kahalue, Maui every day. Through Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays I can book air and car, air and hotel or air, car and hotel with some of the best package rates available. Sometimes I book my own condo through Karen and need just air and car. The flight schedule works out well allowing me to be on the beach by noon on the day I fly.
If you get the bug to go to Maui as often as I used to, then I suggest to buy the Air Pass from Pleasant Hawaiian. It is good for the whole year and worked very well for me. To get it you have to contact Pleasant Hawaiian just before October.
If you have frequent flyer miles or upgrades for United, this can be a wonderful way to go. I have flown first class to and from Maui a few times on United and it is exceptional. United can also book packages and if you shop around their site and keep a watch out you can pick up good deals as well. For the best prices, I suggest U.S. Airways.
Getting around on Maui is easy. There is good signage on the main roads and plenty of people to ask for directions. I usually rent a car from Dollar or Budget. They both have combo prices with the airlines but occasionally I find good internet deals on their sites. I always book a basic car and then upgrade when I arrive unless it is peek season, then I book what I want in advance.
