On Maui there is a wide variety of places to stay from camping upcountry to quaint romantic villas to beach front hotels to ultra-luxury resorts. My favorite place to stay is the Whaler or Westin on Ka'anapali Beach. The weather is always the best at Ka'anapali and it is a convenient location for just about everything. Great beach, great snorkeling, great food, close to my favorite golf course (Kapalua Village) and easy ride to Lahaina Towne.
The Whaler is right in the middle of Ka'anapali next to the Hula Grill. Here you can rent studios to 2 bedroom suites with kitchens and good amenities. The staff is so friendly. I suggest to call Karen Kondo at (877) 808-8484 and ask her what she can do for you. Tell her that "Marty sent you". You can also book this in a package deal, too.
The Westin Maui is located on the other side of Whaler's Village. The Westin pools are one of my favorite places to hang out. The upper Adult Pool has it's own bar and if you are lucky my good friend Abraham will be working. Ask him about the local goings on for the time you will be there. The Westin Spa was just rebuilt to complete Ultra-Luxury standards. There you will find my favorite masseuse, Kelly. You should book your appointment in advance with her as she is the best. The rooms in the Westin are my Dad's favorite with the Heaven Bed and Heaven Bath Systems. This is a very popular place for weddings, especially at sunset.
Ka'anapali Beach Hotel is just north of The Whaler. It is a very traditional Hawaiian hotel with only Hawaiian people working there. They usually offer some of the best rates and include the all-you-can-eat breakfast with the room.
The next resort up on Ka'anapali beach is the Sheraton Maui famous for it's location at Black Rock, a very good place to snorkel. The Sheraton is very kid friendly and has some "Ohana" suites on the garden level that work great for family getaways. It is tradition to watch the torch diver at sunset.
Going South you will find Wailea, home of the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea Resort. If you want to experience the lifestyles of the rich and famous this is the place to be. I have spent unforgettable days at the swimming pools, slides, water elevator and jungle river with my nephews and nieces. The Spa is one of my Sister's favorites. And yes, I have seen Movie Stars and famous Football and Basketball players.
If you are looking for that very romantic secluded place for a Honeymoon or special occasion, try the Hotel Hana Maui. Here you can stay at your own cottage suite and pamper that special someone at the Honua spa. Driving there on the Hana Highway is breath taking with it's waterfalls and views but can be quite much with all of the curves. I suggest to take a helicopter from Kahalue to the Hana Airport.
For the golf enthusiast I recommend to set up a golf package with the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua. Kapalua has three golf courses, the Village, the Plantation and the Bay course. The Village is my favorite with each hole being a new and different challenge. Bring your camera for the photo op at #6, spectacular views from the tee box. Grab an ummm-so-good hot dog as you turn 7. The Plantation is my Father's favorite. It is quite challenging and if your ball goes just a touch in the rough, look out, the jungle will take your ball. If you find yourself at the Ritz during the Fourth of July weekend, check out the Wine Symposium.
Many people like to "Kick-it" in their own condo in places like Honokawai, Kahana, or Kihei. Here one can find good deals on rentals through local real estate agents. I suggest to call Karen Kondo (877) 808-8484 or Ron Lando-Brown 877-999-8753.
